25-April-2012,Shri Ajit Singh, the Minister of Civil Aviation informed Lok Sabha today in written reply to a question that Airports Authority of India (AAI) carries out its commercial activities which are revenue earning contracts through grant of licences. This is done by call of tenders. However, Conservancy and Birds Scaring Services on the airside, which are basically expenditure contracts, are outsourced.
All Airport Safety Rules as per laid down Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) guidelines are implemented on outsourced works and police verification reports of the contractor and workers are obtained before issuing Airport Entry Permits.
