25-April-2012,The Centre will provide all assistance to Madhya Pradesh to facilitate increase procurement of wheat. Efforts will be made to provide more gunny bags and speedy movements of food grains from the states. This assurance was given by the Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Minister Prof. K.V. Thomas to the Chief Minister of the State Shri Shivaj Singh Chauhan here today. The Chief Minister called on Prof. Thomas to appraise him of requirement of more gunny bags for procurement and storage of wheat.
Prof. Thomas said that as per initial assessment of the requirement submitted by the Centre 1,73,000 bags have already been provided to the States, request for more bags by the States now will be considered. Request for the use of plastic bags will also be forwarded to the Textile Ministry. Regarding movements of the food grains from the States, Prof. Thomas said that FCI is making all efforts to speed up.
