The All-India Consumer Price Index Numbers for Agricultural Labourers and Rural Labourers (Base: 1986-87=100) for March, 2012 increased by 4 points and 3 points respectively to stand at 625 (Six hundred and twenty five ) points for Agricultural Labourers and 626 ( Six hundred and twenty six) points for Rural Labourers. In all the 20 States, Consumer Price Index Numbers for Agricultural Labourers recorded an increase which varied between 1 to 11 points. Maharashtra with 694 points topped the index table whereas Himachal Pradesh with the index level of 519 points stood at the bottom. In case of Rural Labourers, it recorded an increase between 1 to 11 points in all the 20 States. Punjab with 691 points topped the index table whereas Himachal Pradesh with the index level of 539 points stood at the bottom. The Consumer Price Index Numbers for Agricultural and Rural Labourers in respect of Punjab State registered the maximum increase of 11 points each mainly due to increase in the prices of milk, vegetables & fruits, gur, bidi, firewood, shirting cloth cotton (mill) and leather shoes. Point to point rate of inflation based on the CPI-AL and CPI-RL increased from 6.34% and 6.68% in February, 2012 to 6.84% and 7.19% respectively in March, 2012. Inflation based on food index of CPI-AL and CPI-RL are 3.94% and 4.10% respectively during March, 2012.
